Founded On Love

David Nelson Sr. (Dave) founded Village Pizza in 1983 out of a love for cooking and family. A successful businessman in the Midwest, Dave was known in the family as the one who would always be asked to cook at family gatherings. When the opportunity to start a restaurant in beautiful Vermont, combining his love for cooking, community and family came about, Dave jumped at the opportunity. And later, when the family would gather at their lake house in Michigan every summer, they would continue to insist that Dave bring his pizza from Vermont all the way to Michigan for the family to enjoy. It’s no coincidence that the Ludlow community loves his pizza recipes as much as his own family, giving Village Pizza over 200 five-star reviews!

In 2025, Dave’s son David Nelson, Jr. (David) took over Village Pizza, with the same passion for providing delicious food at a good value, a love for community and family, and a focus on customer service. David can often be found at Village Pizza most days greeting customers with his warm smile, often accompanied by his beautiful wife Brittany, their young son Isaac, and David’s sister Devin.
